about

DAVID ROTHENBERG is a young composer and clarinet player here at his second CD. His music is very rich of different experiences, coming not only from different musical genres and historical moments but also from lands and cultures very far one from the others.

ROTHEMBERG has been able to blend sounds and melodies from different parts of the heart in an unique musical language respectful of the various cultures, but fluent and homogeneous at the same time. Influences from far away and very close, from past and future, from known and unknown, his compositions include dervishes Turkish songs, Norvegian folk tunes, Medieval melodies; the instrumentation presents bendir, prepared banjo, Hungarian flutes but also common clarinet, guitar and percussion.

DAVID ROTHEnBERG is also writer, ecologist, pervaded by an intense relationship with the nature that maintains in his various activities. In Scholar of Deep Ecology with Arno Naess, about whom also wrote a book, ROTHENBERG developed a music that decline the spirituality of the World Music with the freedom of the improvisation. He has studied with Jimmy Giuffre, Paul McCandless, John Cage, Tibetan Music (in Nepal) and folk music in Scandinavia. In this recording he is performing with Graeme BOONE and Glen VELEZ.

Graeme BOONE (banjo, guitars) works with Rothenberg since long time, Jazz teacher at Harvard University, he is a string instruments virtuoso and gives to the music of the trio a very intense harmonic background keeping together the leader melodic phrasing with the percussion virtuosity of Glen Velez.

Glen VELEZ is one of the most recognized percussionist in the World Music field. Percussionist from a Turkish family, VELEZ has been able through the years to elaborate on the frame drum a very personal technique that gives him the freedom to perform different poly-rhythm with many different colors. Surely the ideal companion for the musical trip David ROTHENBERG has started.
